nothing fancy...
just some thoughts on making ordinary days feel a little sweeter.
SO lately I’ve been thinking about life in general…
What makes it exciting? What makes me genuinely happy day in and day out? How do I make the days in between feel just as meaningful?
Sure, the big things help. Trips, milestones, weddings, birthdays. Those moments absolutely make life sweeter. I rode those highs most of my life.
But life is happening right here, right now. On a random Sunday.
It's happening in all the days in between.
I think that’s why I feel so strongly about elevating our everyday. Not in a super elaborate, flashy, over-the-top kind of way. More in a let’s make our lives beautiful, one intentional moment at a time kind of way.
Because if we’re constantly waiting for the next vacation or the next big milestone to feel excited about life, I think we miss so much of it.
Those ordinary Tuesdays and lazy Sundays eventually become the years we look back on.
As my dad always reminded us growing up, the reward is in the journey, not the destination.
It's become an unshakeable reminder for me throughout my life, gently pulling me back to what matters most: simplifying things, creating little pockets of joy, and slowing down enough to enjoy it all.
I've realized those little pockets of joy rarely come from the big things. They're usually tucked inside the ordinary parts of my day.
Drinking a hot cup of tea with honey before everyone else wakes up.
Candles at dinner, always.
Fresh-cut flowers scattered throughout the house.
Drinking the good wine.
Inviting girlfriends over for dinner just because.
Writing in my one-liner gratitude journal.
Watching the birds (and chipmunks) fight over the feeder from my rocking chair.
An abundant, family-style meal I cooked for my family.
Snuggling with my husband watching our favorite show.
Life chats with my 4yo.
When I first started writing this article, I thought it was going to be a list of my favorite ways to “elevate the ordinary.”
But as I started typing, I noticed these things are... stupid simple.
A cup of tea. Fresh flowers. Candlelight at dinner. Sitting in a rocking chair watching the birds?
These things are far from revolutionary. 😂
I spent most of my twenties chasing the highest highs. Not in a stoner way... more in an adrenaline-seeking, globe-trotting, maybe go on reality television kind of way.
I was always looking for the next adventure, the next relationship, the next story to tell.
And honestly? I don’t regret a second of it.
But somewhere along the way, I realized something.
The older I get, the less I crave the big, bold, extraordinary days.
I just want ordinary days that feel really, really good.
So maybe it isn’t about adding more to our lives.
Maybe it's just about noticing what's already there... and treating an ordinary weekday like it's worth celebrating.
